Meeting New People

So let’s talk about one of my Resolutions for the New Year shall we?

Whether you have just moved to a new city, or even just feel like you need to meet some more people and develop new friendships, it is always difficult to put yourself out there.  For many it’s hard to meet people outside work or school and unfortunately I am both employed full time and a student. As a result I find it hard to find the time to meet people who are in similar points in their life as I am. So one of the resolutions I had made is to make a conscious effort in meet new people.

The problem was how I was going to meet these people? It was actually easier than I thought. Sitting home one night I looked up an acquaintance on facebook (yes, I know it’s creepy) and sent her a friend request. Soon after, we started hanging out and have become good friends. Remember what I said before about what can happen from putting yourself out there and meet new people. Well, since becoming friends we have decided to plan a trip down south!!(Which you will hear all about in the coming weeks)

It’s hard to put yourself out there, especially if you’re shy. It’s also not nearly as easy to make friends now as compared to when you were young and when you shared your crayons with someone that made you instant friends. If you are looking to meet some new people, join a new activity (a dogeball team is always fun), ask your friends to introduce you to other people or strike up a conversation with someone in the coffee line beside you.

How do you meet new people?

  1. Kudos! :) that takes a lot of courage. I had a hard time meeting people too so I tried to take up some activities. In Fredericton i found a French discussion group, a collective of a variety of people that want to get together every week or so in a pub or a café to practice speaking French by discussing «n'importe quoi»!
Great advice Hilary, a positive attitude can produce wonders :)
